Movement and Export Testing
The ADDL tests thousands of samples each year for animals moving across state lines or internationally.
Testing requirements for animals moving across state lines or internationally are set by the state or country of destination. All submitters should reach out to the regulatory agency for the destination to determine what the requirements are. When preparing to submit samples to the diagnostic laboratory, make sure the sample type, name of the disease, and type of test assay all match the specified regulations.
The ADDL requests that submitters include a copy of the test requirements with sample submissions. If the testing is for international export, the ADDL MUST have a copy of the requirements, and testing will not begin until the ADDL has a copy.
While the ADDL has a wide test catalog, not all tests required for movement and export are available at the ADDL. Please contact the ADDL to discuss timing of testing at other diagnostic laboratories.
If a sample has a positive or suspect result, the sample likely will be required to go to NVSL for confirmation testing. Please allow as much time as possible before the animals move to allow for any unforeseen circumstances.
Best Practices for Movement and Export Testing
- Contact the destination regulatory agency as soon as possible.
- Reach out to the ADDL to answer any questions.
- Collect samples and ship them to the ADDL as early as the regulations will allow.
- Include a copy of the requirements with the samples and submission form.
- Explain to the client the process and expected turnaround time.
